Yes- in the 1940's the women used to do this (when they were conserving everything for the war effort- that's WWII) and (if grandma was right) they called it ';bottled stockings';- because they were essentially making it look like they had stockings on when they didn't.
It needs to be loose tea- not in bags- so the coverage will be even, though. And you should start with a bit and add some more. You can always go darker, but what would you do if it started out too dark?Can you put tea bags in the bath tub and soak in it to do a fake tan?
Is there any tea that works better than other teas to do this?

Put a small amount of iodine in a bottle of baby oil. Rub this on when you're out in the sun. Great for tanning...with ZERO sunblock, so be careful!
Tea in the tub can stain the ceramic since it's porous..so mom may KILL YOU!
Tea at room temp is GREAT for instantly taking the sting out of sunburn. Put it one in the shower and don't use a wash cloth to apply it since it will stain the cloth.
If you fake-tan with tea, don't use green tea! You could look like a Martian! : )
Thats what I do and it works really well. But make sure you soak in it all over, or else you will look odd. I do it all the time in the winter and everyone thinks I go to a tanning salon.
You should try it, it seems harmless and I do it and I'm don't have skin cancer or anything.

Will it work? Probably not - go out in the sun or buy some spray tan. Duh.
ya never heard of that either but might as well just go and buy fake tan lotion for like 8 bucks
