You have a clog in the main drain. I used a tool called a blow bag, available at most home stores for less than $20.





This bag attaches to the garden hose. Find the drain clean out in the basement, usually close to where the water line enters.





Insert the blow bag about 4' or more into the drain. Turn on the water hose. The Blow bag expands, and wedges itself into the drain pipe, Then the end opens and water sprays into the drain. It can't move back into the house because of the exspanded blow bag. The pressure will build until the obstruction is blown out of the pipe and into the main street drain or septic tank. After 15 minutes, turn off the water, and remove the hose and bag. Reinsert the clean out plug and you should be good to go. Turn on water in sinks and tub to be sure the drain is working.
You probably have a septic system. From the sounds of it the pipe that runs from your house out to the septic tank is clogged or broken because the problem you described occurs in more then one place. This is a big problem, you might have to dig up the pipe and replace it or just call the septic people to fix it.
Roto Rooter - probably have a clog in the drain pipe itself. if you can try one of the industrial strength drano's.
