My cat has gone nuts! She has recently started ';messing';in the bath tub....What would cause this?

She is a good cat, and never had this problem until a few days ago. She just forgot about her litter box and stated using the bathtub .....it's horrible! What would cause this? She had 4 kittens about 3 weeks ago and she is doing well with that. Also she eats normal and sleeps good. Thanks for any advice. My cat has gone nuts! Do you mean pooping or peeing or both? Most of the time that a cat starts peeing somewhere other than the litter box, it is because they have a urinary tract infection. In those cases they look for someplace soft (like carpet or clothes) or cool (like a bathtub or a basement floor) to pee. They associate the pain they feel with the litter box and attempt to find a place to pee that doesn't hurt.

In any case, I would take her to the vet to rule out any physical problem. My cat has gone nuts! She has recently started ';messing';in the bath tub....What would cause this?
Wow my kitty just started doing the same thing! I changed litters a few weeks ago and was thinking that he just doesn't like it. He has never acted this way before so I changed back to his old litter and he quit going in the bathtub.
My male cat is currently going through a UTI and bladder problems and my vet told me to watch for exactly this problem. He told me that if they start to go in the tub it could mean that they like the coldness of the tub on their private parts....Just an idea. If you think she might have some kind of an infection maybe you should take her to the vet just to get checked out. Clean the litter out morning and night, save yourself and the kitty numerous trips to the vet and the pain of a UTI. They also like cold cement floors and tile and laminate floors if they are having any issues like this. Just an idea.

Hope I helped...
When a cats litterbox is full then a cat will find another spot to use the bathroom the problem can be solved by changing her/he litterbox more often
Thats cute.

Maybe shes imagining playing or catching smoe fish.
Some cats have a part of a breed that is different in them my cat doesn't go in the tub but he plays in it and around water
1)Maybe you can move the litter box in the bath tub. See if she goes in there.

2)If your not already maybe she's doing that b/c she wants the litter box changed more frequently.

3)Buy another litter box and put it wherever else she likes to go in or near.
My cats used to do this, too.

- It could be because you changed litters. If so, please change it back and it should stop. This is what triggered the behaviour in one cat.

- It could be that she is re-staking her territory because of the new kittens. In this case, you will need to watch her carefully, and catch her in the act so that you can grab her and put her in the catbox.

- If the kittens are using the litter box at all (even to just learn to dig) she may be moving out so that they have more room to learn. Again, catch her in the act and move her back to the litter box.

- Is the male cat in the house? If so, he may be making territorial maneuvers on the catbox and needs to learn to let girl kitty in there. Again, you will have to watch to see how that pans out. I doubt this is the case or you would probably have mentioned it, but you never know.

Unfortunately, without a close examination of every factor, it's hard to determine why she is doing this. However, if you watch her as much as you can, and move her back to the litterbox when she tries to use the tub, you can overcome the behaviour.

I do have to add the caveat that it's good she is using the tub, rather than, say, your bed? *grin* I agree that when the kitty uses the tub it's disgusting and annoying (especially when you find it just as you're going in for a good soak). But at least it's easier to clean up.
