Will a carpet shrink if washed in a large bath tub?

I have a fairly small living room and the carpet is in dire need of cleaning. I can't really afford to hire a carpet cleaner etc. I was thinking about lifting up the carpet and washing it in my bath. Is this a stupid idea? If it is likely to shrink, by how much? A small amount of shrinkage would be ok.Will a carpet shrink if washed in a large bath tub?
This would be unadviseable to clean carpet in this manner, suggested cleaning: Rent Steam Cleaner from Supermarket add only two cups of White Vinegar to tank no detergent needed, your carpet will come up beautifully clean, bright, and sanitized Good Luck !Will a carpet shrink if washed in a large bath tub?
If it's wall to wall carpet, NO.

You will never be able to dry it. Even if you could, it will shrink. Removing and reinstalling will be a problem for you.

As far as how much a carpet shrinks, it can be several inches. It may still be reinstalled but that depends on how much stretch it was given on the original installation. If it was stretched to max, you may not be able to reinstall it.

If the carpet is wrinkled now, then it still can be stretched.

Rent a carpet cleaning machine. They're not that expensive.
