I always brushed my teeth and spit in the bath tub drain. My gf just saw me and sad it was weird. Am i alone?

Yeah i have done that since my parents told me to in like second grade. They said it was cute and laughed but i thought that was just because i was young. I tried to spit in the sink but just doesnt feel right.I always brushed my teeth and spit in the bath tub drain. My gf just saw me and sad it was weird. Am i alone?
well i do that to. i have always brushed my teeth in the shower. its jsut simpler than taking a shower and getting out, drying off, going to get dressed, going back and brushing your teeth. you are in the same place that you need to do both so why not. so no your not alone. i do it also :)I always brushed my teeth and spit in the bath tub drain. My gf just saw me and sad it was weird. Am i alone?
Many people brush their teeth in the shower. As long as your brushing them, there is no problem.
I think thats weird but your not alone,
I doubt you're the only one but I've never heard of anyone doing that before.

  • Does sitting down in the bath tub makes your period stay on longer?

I need to knwDoes sitting down in the bath tub makes your period stay on longer?
nope. what it does is it temporarily stops it because buoyancy pushes blood upward. Water temperature also can affect blood flow. If the water is warm it dilates blood vessels thereby increasing blood flow; and if the water is cold it constricts blood vessels which decreases blood flow.Does sitting down in the bath tub makes your period stay on longer?
No, sitting in the bathtub doesn't affect how long your period lasts. What can happen when one takes a bath especially in warm/hot (not hot enough to burn oneself of course) is that it opens up the blood vessels some so that more blood comes out for a few minutes afterward.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
Nope. Your hormones regulate your period. Nothing you can physically do will affect this.
no it just dilutes the blood and washes it away making it seem like it's not coming out

Temperature and your circulatory system has nothing to do with your period since menstrual blood has been out of your circulatory system for quite some time

Not having sex with a man in the tub but getting in the tub after he ejaculated in it.Can a woman get pregnant in a bath tub filled with warm water that a man ejaculated in?
It's possible, but not likely. The temperature would have to be just right, and the sperm would have a VERY long way to travel. Can a woman get pregnant in a bath tub filled with warm water that a man ejaculated in?
ok, you do know that you cant believe everything that you read on the internet right...

Why are you even getting into the water. Don't you think it would be better to run you own bath water instead of bathing in his sperm and whatever else is floating in there?
Anything is possible, but it isn't likly. Once sperm leaves a human body, if it isn't immediately frozen and I mean instantly frozen it loses it viability. I would say the odds are 1 in a billion it could happen
not 100% sure but I would think swimming around in water would kill the sperm... A woman can get pregnant if the woman had semen on her skin (in key areas) since they can swim up but I don't think that they'd be able to swim in water long enough to survive to fertilize... Could be wrong but it's an thought-provoking questions (OH, and the imagery - eek!)
    no. the sperm will die
    no, I don't think so!
no way that will happen the penis has to be inside of the woman so that the sperm can travel up the utreas

How to keep active son sitting in Bath tub?

My son constantly tries to stand up in the tub. No toys or other distraction keep him there. He wants to climb out, touch the facet, touch the sides....etc. Any ideas? How to keep active son sitting in Bath tub?
DEPENDING ON YOUR CHILDS SIZE %26amp; AGE I WOULD RECOMMEND A BATH SEAT.

GOOD LUCKHow to keep active son sitting in Bath tub?
My husband and I have different views on this - my husband will take my daughters and with a firm voice tell them standing is not ok and that they need to sit down, he will then make them sit. That will happen over and over again partially because they were a little too young to understand exactly what he was saying. I decided to put a rubber mat on the bottom of the tub to help prevent any slipping. The trouble with rubber mats is you have to be careful about the mold that grows underneath - it's really gross and you have to make sure to clean it all the time. I think bath seats are a good idea, there is also an inflatable infants tub that can sit inside the bath tub. I don't have either of those products although I would really like to try them and see if they really work.
Try a shower. He might have a blast! My son would never sit still either (hyperactivity issues), so we opted for a shower and he loved it, got clean and didn't have to linger in the tub for an hour to play either.
I don't know his age but my child loves this soap can that has foam colored soap, keeps him busy for a long time. I get it at the dollar store.

Is it dangerous to be in bath tub if a implanted debibulator goes off?

There is NO danger from the defibrillator.

Not to get political but you should know that the only part of government that actually works is Dick Cheney's defibrillator. Is it dangerous to be in bath tub if a implanted debibulator goes off?
It would be very dangerous if it DIDN'T 'go off' darling.

It is called a DEFIBRILLATOR after 'fibrillation' which is fluttering of the heart muscles which makes the strong pumping function of the heart useless, and the additive 'DE' means to stop this fibrillation by influencing the electrical activity in the muscles so the heart starts to pump strongly again. Is it dangerous to be in bath tub if a implanted debibulator goes off?
The danger itself is not necessarily the bathtub, not like it will cause electrocution, it only has the power of a battery, not the voltage of an electrical outlet in your home. The person could however slip or have an accident, but the same could occur without the difibulator. The fact that the difibulator is being discharged means that the heart has gone into an irregular rhythm. The shock is actually quite small, painful for the patient (according to my aunt) and afterwards (if they survive) leaves them very weak and tired.
    What's a DEBIBULATOR?

I have an implanted DEFIBRILLATOR, never heard of the thing you are talking about. Only dangerous to the tub, not to the patient.

  • Why does my cat like to sleep in the bath tub?

Could be the need for a cool surface.

Could be the cat doesn't have enough water all day?? Check on that!!

Could be she just wants her own space :)
A cat loves to sleep on a cool surface. Probably your house is hot for her.
sometimes when it is hot, cats will lie down on surfaces that help them feel cool - like the bathroom floor or better - the bath tub! I've heard and seen some cats sleeping in the bathroom sink!
I would like to know the answer to this question cause my male cat love to sleep in my bathtub about 2 hours after I shower. I will come home from work and he's in the bathtub asleep. Weird little cat.

Pouring chemicals in is akin to taking two aspirins for every ailment. Better option is to 1) find out what's clogging it - probably hair- and taking it out or snaking it and 2) putting a filter or using other means to prevent this from happening again.
The drain is connected to a p trap. It is hard to get a drain snake to go thru and past the p trap. The best way is to access the p trap and take it apart and clear and replace. If impossible to get to, get a drain king, hose end style drain opener. These attach to garden hoses and blast water thru the drain. Send down thru the overflow plate opening as far as you can. Use hot water. Good luck!
You can use any of the national drain cleaning brands to clear hair and sludge from your tub drain costing you anywhere from 6 to 20 dollars. it may not work. a plastic zipper from your local hardware store might reach the hair clog from the drain or overflow but it is only 2 ft long, cost 2 dollars. or you could call a REPUTABLE profesional drain cleaner, who will snake the line and clear the clog for less than 100 dollars. be carefull, some cheap remedies will cause you to spend more time and money than its worth.
    draino
Remove the overflow cover and use the snake. If no snake then use a coat hanger and twist and shout. You can sometimes remove clog from drain but you get to easier from the overflow and you get more of the hair and stuff. Always remember to run cold water when flushing anything down your drains. (toothpaste, hair stuff, grease in the kitchen)
A Snake, the wire thing plumbers use to stick down a drain, turning it as it goes down then you pull it back out with all the hair and other junk stuck in it.

Any other suggestions so I do not have to open up the wall.Stuck bath tub valve. Can open to get to valve seat.?
some things not right.the things you did should have worked.are you turning it counter clock wise,Stuck bath tub valve. Can open to get to valve seat.?
not exactly sure what part you're talking about but only open the wall as a last resort. If it's a nut or bolt thats stuck, try a pipe wrench (monkey wrench). also you probably want to shut off the water going to that bathroom, if you can't find a cut off valve you need to turn it off at the street (Home Depot sells a tool for about $10). Lastly if you do have to go into the wall a lot of times you can go into the next room behind the faucet side of your tub and go in thhrough sheetrock, when your done just screw in a piece of wood over the hole instead of fixing sheetrock for future service work. Hope that helps

My waters turns my bath tub blue? is there lead in my water, plus it's well water?

I CLEAN MY TUB AT NIGHT BUT THE NEXT MORINIG THE WATER STAINS ARE BLUE. IS HTERE LEAD IN MY WATER OR WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT?My waters turns my bath tub blue? is there lead in my water, plus it's well water?
Lead is not blue in solution of well water. You cannot see a contamination of lead in water. It is totally invisible.

What you have is calcium deposits coming in your well water. This normal. You need a water softener to be installed. Softened water will remove the calcium in the water and make the wash water, and in particular your bath tub clear.

Call a water softening company. Or go to Lowes or Depot and buy a water softener. My waters turns my bath tub blue? is there lead in my water, plus it's well water?
I have city water, and we also got blue stains when we had a slow drip coming out of the faucet.

This is not lead, it's a mineral stain. Get some CLR, its a good cleaner that breaks up calcium, lime and rust stains. Your cleaner probably isn't really cleaning it, and the stains are coming back. 50/50 mix of bleach and water also does wonders.

If you have a drip like I had, fix it and you won't see the stain come that often.
Don't drink your water until you have it tested. I don't think I would be comfortable drinking blue liquid unless it had ice and alcohol in it

    Good luck

obviously the tub is normal size, you are taller than it, like cant you learn swimming technques and then when you are actually in a pool you combine it all together then you can learn how to swim!

    do you think its possible?

Overheard two ppl in a bus talking about itDo you think you can learn to swim in a bath tub?
I would reccomend arm floaties just to be on the safe side.Do you think you can learn to swim in a bath tub?
I don't think you can learn to swim in a tub, But you can easily learn to swim in 31/2 to 4 feet of water (if you are average height). Some people think you have to be almost completely submerged to learn to swim. Practice swimming somewhere were the water is wast deep to you. Hope this helps!!!!
I don't think it's possible. Maybe if it's for a little kid, maybe. I learned how to swim without anyone teaching me by just swimming in the shallow end of the pool and then I started going to the deeper side.
uh no way! u could only learn 2 swim if the tub was like 5 times the size of a two times the size tub!!! idk if that makes sence 2 u but... so no its not possible
probably not. u wouldnt be able to do the arms and the feed at the correct time, and u would make a big watery place around the tub

How can i get my kitten to stop using my bath tub as a litter box and know he peed in my lundary basket?

thank god there was no close in it by the way the kitten is a male what can i do to stop all of thisHow can i get my kitten to stop using my bath tub as a litter box and know he peed in my lundary basket?
A litter box needs to be kept clean , sometimes a kitten or cat will not use a dirty or smelly litter box, that's the first step.

Spray with ammonia . having the room ventilated.....

spray a disinfectant such as Lysol...

male cats and kittens are famous for peeing anywhere. How can i get my kitten to stop using my bath tub as a litter box and know he peed in my lundary basket?
make sure you keep your litter box cleaned out, or maybe try a diffirent type of litter. To teach my kitten to only use the litter box I would lock the kitting in the room with the litter box until I knew he would use it all the time. After that see what happens. Keep trying different things all cats are different. keep his food and water totally away from the litter box. If all else fails keep the door closed and see if he picks a new spot, or maybe talk to a local vet. good luck!
Cats are naturally a remarkably clean and fastidious animal and will usually learn quite quickly how to use a litter tray. Some kittens can be put in the litter tray and they instinctively go back there but others simply refuse to use the litter tray and will always find a nice corner of the room. The other problem here is that once one of the kittens starts using a corner of the room, the other may think that they should be using it too.

You really need to spend a fair amount of time with the kittens continually picking them up after eating or drinking and putting them in the litter tray. You can also buy a spray that attracts them to the litter tray. Cat urine does not do the carpets any good and if you allow the cat to continually use the corner of a room, you will soon find that the carpet discolors and you can never really get rid of that awful smell.

You could use a ';pet behave spray'; which is basically a spray that can be applied to any soft furnishing - carpets, stairs, settees etc and will deter the cat from going near as they hate the smell. You will also need to clean the litter tray daily if you have more than one cat. The only solution is perseverance and a willingness to clean up a lot of cat waste before they finally learn where they are supposed to go! You should never scold a young cat for fouling in the wrong place and certainly never rub its nose in it.
KEEP THE BATHROOM DOOR CLOSED AND LITTER BOX NEAR THE DOOR,

    KEEP IT CLEAN TO
Leave about a 1/2 inch of water sitting in the tub. Then see if that cat pees in it.
keep the bathroom door shut and put the laundary basket in the shut bathroom

Surely your cat cannot use the door handle to open the door then go and pee in the bath...if he does this tho it does mean he probably does not like you!
Close the bathroom door. Close the laundry room door (or where ever you keep your hamper). Keep the litter box clean and easily accessible. If you don't have him neutered, he might start spraying all over the house.

Nail polish remover or acetone should do it.How do you get finger nail polish out of a bath tub?
with fingernail polish removerHow do you get finger nail polish out of a bath tub?
The correct answer is...NON-acetone polish remover. You can also use NON-acetone remover on laminate floors to get rid of scuff marks. It won't ruin the shine on the floor or your tub.

Everyone has the right answer but are not giving a complete answer. If you were to use regular acetone and have the wrong type of tub, you could ruin it!

    Good luck!
have you tried nail polish remover?
Using a Q-tip soaked in nail polish remover and being very careful so you don't take off much of the enamel on the tub or take away much of the fiberglass.
Put nail polish remover(origional strong one) on a piece of cloth %26amp; just erase the nail polish with it.

If that dosn't work use a strong paint remover(VARSOL) by dabbing it on a cloth %26amp; just erase the nail polish.

Be carefull when doing this,{if U use the paint remover} so wear a mask or something to protect your face %26amp; also make sure you're eyes are protected.

Figner nail polish remover should do the trick. If it's very thick or stubborn, rub polish in with a scrubby pad.
This really isn't a smart-alek answer, but use fingernail polish remover on a Q-tip or a cotton ball. If it's a huge spill, then just go for a white washcloth. It really does work.

Is it wrong for my cat to pee and poop in the sink and bath tub?

When I first got my cat , I thought it would be much better if she went for her necessities in bath tub and I put her there and whispered:';pls go here when u feel lke peeing';. That was all. Since then, she always went there, except that she sometimes preferred the sink to the tub, both for peeing or pooping. I realised then that I could actually build a small basin just for her and that would be her own toilet and all would be great, but I never did that though as I didnt have the resources for this investment.

Now after years, my boyfriend, who also has a cat, who pees in a litter box, told me it is very unhigienic what I tought my cat to do and that the litter box is the only common sense solution it exists for cats. He said that the germs live in the sink and tub because of the cat, yet I suspect germs live in the litter box too and on the cat paws. My boyfriend also sais that the solution I found for the cat is a dirty one.

I would appreciate getting your opinions on this. ThanksIs it wrong for my cat to pee and poop in the sink and bath tub?
I agree that this is not the most healthy solution. Your cat may think that all sinks are fair game and use the kitchen sink, which will be extremely unhygienic. Training her to use the toilet would be great, but I'm not sure how to do it. Training cats to use the litter box isn't difficult; they are creatures of habit. Whatever method you decide to use, the key to limiting the amount of germs spread is cleaning the area thoroughly and often. Is it wrong for my cat to pee and poop in the sink and bath tub?
Well, I suppose it is kinda gross, but your point about cats paws being dirty from the litter box is valid as well...is there anyway to train your cat to use the toilet? You could possibly make a compromise and agree to clean the sink and shower with some sort of non-toxic cleaning substance that will not harm your kitty...

Also, I think the pros of not using a litter box are great--no smell!

I think that its your cat, and you can raise it your way. Just let this be a forewarning when it comes to raising kids ;). Lastly, your cat must be very smart to learn how to do that with you just whispering that in his ear--I wish you could come over to my house and whisper in my cat's ear!
Ok.. Teaching a cat to use a litterbox is as simple as putting her in it, taking her paw and scratching the litter. At least, it always was for me.

If you don't want her to use a litterbox, then at least use a bleach solution to clean the sink or tub after she goes. 1 part bleach with 11 parts water in a spray bottle is fine, just rinse well with hot water after you clean it. That won't harm your cat. And you'll be healthier for not exposing yourself or your boyfriend to those germs.

Greyish black residue in bath tub?

    Hi,

I have a problem w/ my bath tub as it has black/greyish residue buildup...i had never had this problem until a new roomate moved in our apartment...ever since he moved him it started to turn that color...i live in a apartment which i have to share a bathroom w/ a random person...

can someone help me out on what this is? i also cleaned it and the next day he took a shower it was black/greyish again...

thanksGreyish black residue in bath tub?
I agree with fauxpain. He may also be showering with his dirty flip-flops on, or he is rinsing his clothing in the tub, or he dyes his hair with a non permanent product and it washes off in the tub, who knows!

But in reality you don't want to solve a mystery, you just want the tub cleaned by whoever used it.

I would just plain tell the person there's a greyish residue in the bathtub after he showers and could he please wash the tub BEFORE he leaves the bathroom because he must be responsible to clean after himself just like you and the other roomate.

If you have an acrylic tub dirt seems to stick to it and is harder to clean. Often times people damage the acrylic by using bleach and other harsh chemicals; these eat up the top layer and the acrylic becomes very porous, and dirt attaches like glue.

Recommend to the roomate to buy SHOUT, it's a spray to remove stains from clothing but it works wonders with acrylic tubs, it is safe and works great.

If you have a ceramic bathtub COMET and a good sponge will do the job.

Be assertive! Be polite, yelling is not necessary, but be assertive. You shouldn't have to clean after someone else, that's rude, gross, and inconsiderate from the other person.Greyish black residue in bath tub?
It sounds like something that is washing off his body... like car oil, printers ink, newspaper ink, paint ? The answer is probably in his occupation.
Sounds like a mold problem to me. Try using some type of bleach for a while and see what happens. OR JUST BUY ANOTHER TUB!

if you used a flimsy little wire one and it broke. go rent a real elec.one. they have tough metal ends and will push it through. or wrap it up so you can bring it out. get one with a cutter head if you think you have some thing plastic in there. My son in law tried to unplug our tub,how can you remove a broken off snake head from a bath tub drain? Help!?
Sorry, but you may have to get into the plumbing lines to get it out. There is no real easy way to do this. If you have an access panel you need to start there and if you do not you need to evaluate just where the best spot is to start cutting into the walls or ceilings. When you are able to see the plumbing look for the inline p trap and try to cut the pipe near this. It is where the clog originates also. Wish I could be more help.
your gonna have to cut the trap out . it is caught in the trap. if you can turn (counter clockwise) and pull gently it may come out without cutting the trap. good luck.

  • What to use to fill gap between green wall board and cement board, and between cement boards around bath tub?

Use the same material you are going to use to set the tile. Thin set or mastic. They are both water proof when cured. You can pre fill the joints and then come behind to set tile. We would use use fiberglass tape made for drywall and cover that with thin set mortar. Make sure you don't set the green board all the way down on the tub. Leave it up about 1/2'; or so and fill with the mastic or thin set so no water can ever wick up into the drywall if grout or caulk fails. What to use to fill gap between green wall board and cement board, and between cement boards around bath tub?

Can you have sex in a bath tub without getting hurt?

I heard that if you have sex in a bath tub you can get really hurt

True or FalseCan you have sex in a bath tub without getting hurt?
If the vagina and penis are under water the thrusting action of the penis ~can~ force water up inside the vagina and into the uterus... which isn't good. Can you have sex in a bath tub without getting hurt?
Depending on the size of the tub will it have water in it?
    i dont know
I've heard sex underwater is not advised, because water can be driven up into the vagina.

THat said, I don't know how common that is.
That is totally FALSE!!! You should always take precaution when have sex in different places, but no....you cannot get hurt. Just as long as you're not going all crazy, but just because you're having sex in a another place besides the bedroom doesn't make it any dangerous.
If you are using a condom, heat from the water can make it more likely to break. I suppose there is also the risk of slipping in the tub and hurting yourself. Other than that I don't know of any serious risks.
True. The soap scum in your tub contains crystallized bacteria that will cause chlamydia. After you get this, your kidneys will shut down, and you'll be forced to wear a colostomy bag for the rest of your life.

P.S. Sex in water or porcelain tubs causes cancer.
    False.
false.. u can have sex almost anywere just be careful....
have the girl sit on the edge of the tub while you insert the cock, or you can do it doggystyle
u r way too young then.
true, if it has water in it, you guys end up falling and hurting your selves if you guys are standing, if you guys are laying there might not be enough space to really do anything, if its one of those that don't have a tub in it, i guess it could be safe, but also depending on how much space there is, it might not be very comfortable.

Black water Came out of my bath tub faucet. What is it?

Um...I turned the water on and...for like 5 seconds the water turned black and then it went back to normal. This happened to my sink also once. Soo I'm just wondering what it is and how it happens? Like is it toxic? Thanks :DBlack water Came out of my bath tub faucet. What is it?
Do you have old galvanized pipes in your house? This happens sometimes, it's corroded zinc and iron and it's pretty harmless - though galvanized pipes sooner or later get so occluded that you can't get acceptable flow through them. Black water Came out of my bath tub faucet. What is it?
more than likely the city has been flushing the water mains [at the fire hydrants] this stirs up the sediment in the pipes

not toxic just junk in water lines

fill the drain with a box of baking soda...pour in 1 to 2 cups of vinegar...this will cause bubbling and acid to clear drain...when bubbling is done pour in 2-4 cups of super hot water (just shy of boiling) doing this monthly can keep drains clean all the time. What is a Real good drain cleaner for a bath tub--from household products ?
First try to remove all the hair from the drain. You can cut a wire hanger and dig the hair out using the curly end of the clothes hanger. Slowly pour 1 cup baking soda down the drain followed by 2 cups white vinegar. It will foam! Let it foam and add more vinegar. Let it sit overnight and rinse with hot water. Do this to all the drains in the house !
If you have a clog, start with needle nosed pliers to pull out hair that might be stuck in the drain.

If that doesn't fix it, try a sink plunger (the flat kind) and Blue Dawn, or any degreasing detergent. Laundry detergent or dish detergent are best.

Borax or baking soda will work too.
Just look for if cleaner can dissolve the hair. They are all good. and poor cleaner at night don't use bath tub for 5 h. It will do magik for you.

  • How do I remove a bath tub?

If cast iron, it can be broken up with a heavy hammer. If steel a sawzall would probably work best. How do I remove a bath tub?
I can't believe how many are telling you to cut it up, that is totally unnecessary. Remove the plumbing fixtures and drywall around the tub and will come right out. No need to smash it or cut it. A hammer on a cast iron tub will just make a horrible mess and not help in removal at all.How do I remove a bath tub?
I am guessing the tub is steel or acrylic. First thing you have to do with both is to remove the tub surround and cut the caulking around the tub and floor. Disconnect all the plumbing fixtures and remove, taps, drain, shower etc. The tub should either lift up or slide out. I wouldn't recommend sliding as you may mar your flooring. If the tub won't budge then find out whats stopping it. It could be mortered to the floor, scewed or nailed somewhere. It's easier to remove the tub than install a new one. If the tub is acrylic do as above but you can cut in pieces to remove. If the bathroom is small or the doorway to narrow place the tub on it's side end or end and take out.
    Need a little more info.

If the tub is to be replaced, will it fit thru the entry for the new tub? (Usually the case. Usually need to open a hole in the wall to accommodate installation of the new tub or shower.)

If it's not to be replaced, or won't fit thru the entry for the new unit then cut it up. Use a saws-all for fiberglass and a cutting torch, or sledgehammer for cast iron.
All of the above answers are sound. I want to emphasize that if the intent is to replace the tub with a new one, take careful measurements to be sure that you can get it into the bathroom, and be able to twist it into place once you do.
We took our fiberglass one out after taking a circular saw to it. Wear lots of protective gear and a mask because fiberglass gets into everything. Then take a cold shower - yes cold - to rinse the rest of the fiberglass off of you.

EDIT - We had to cut it up to fit it through the too small doorway, so yes, it is necessary in some cases to destroy the old tub!

Sounds like your drain is clogged somwhere past the point where your toilet and tub drainpipes join.

Your going to probably need a drain auger. They are about $20 for a manual one, its a long flexable metal wire that coils up into a plastic cone, you feed it into the toilet and turn the handle at the back to twist the wire around until you catch the clog and can pull it out or break it up. It's not a clean job, so get gloves (an extra set of hands can be helpful, too, to help feed the wire). If the bend in the toilet gives you trouble, you may also go through the tub drain, which may have less bends, even though it is smaller.

Good luck. If things get really bad, call another plumber and pay them to fix it (or if your really really broke, get some kitty litter and an empty 5 gallon bucket to hold you over until your plumber friend gets back. :-P )How can i fix my toilet? when i flush i leaks all over the place and water comes from bath tub as well?
Problem is that the pipes are clogged not the toilet. You will need someone to open the main trap and use that machine to clear out the large drain pipes. It will be cheaper to hire a stranger (not neighbor) to clean the pipes out than to keep throwing out carpets and things ruined by the backups.
sounds like you need your friend the plummer you sound like you have a perpetual clog in your sewer you need to locate it with the snake and then replace some pipe
Sounds like you have tree roots strangling your outdoor/underground pipes. Get roto rooter or another plumber in.
It sounds like you have a very nasty clog in your pipes somewhere, perhaps even tree roots trying to grow in it. I ran into a similar problem some years ago. Get a plumber again, and see about a more thorough check of your lines.

Why drill into your new bathtub anyway??

If its for something like a soap dish, I recommend using a suction-cup one. Please can any one tell me how to drill tap holes for new acrylic bath tub?
You need to get a hole saw kit that fits on a electric drill ..picture below..but once you find out what size a hole you need..you can buy these individually..no need to buy a whole kit..and for a 1 time job you need only a cheap one.. It should cost you no more than 5.00 to do so... If the hole is small enough..depending on the faucet you can buy a simple butterly bit..of the right size..which i will show a picture of here too ..both are available at any home depot..lowes..walmart etc..on this link see the 3 bits on the lower left hand corner of this picture? actually the 4th 5th and 6th ones from the bottom left...You can buy one of these for a couple dollars..get the right size..and drill right thru fiberglass very easy

like 1'; -1 1/2 '; holes for a fawcet? regular hole saw with bit guide. go slow. good luck
Don't mess about with hole saws they give an unpredictable cut and could make a real mess of your new bath tub, get a step drill for nice clean holes, one of these will give you a choice of about 12 sizes all on the one drill and are perfect for acrylic. Try a good tool store.
Hole saw kit from diy store or plumbers merchants, don't get the cheap ones that are a part circle, you want a full hole saw, measure the taps twice and then check them, once cut, no return!
I suggest you do not use an electric drill driven cutter of whatever type if you are not used to doing it. One snag and you'll get a split or scratches and need a new bath - again!

Put the cutter/drill in a hand drill and take it steady.

    RoyS
you need a hole saw kit and a template for your taps
try a hole drill fairly easy but take your time good luck john

Bath tub reglazing - how good it is?

I have a old bath tub slightly rusted. Could some please tell me how effective re-glazing would be? Is there any disadvantage to this procedure?

Thank you and your input will highly be appreciated.Bath tub reglazing - how good it is?
Your question; Is it cost effective? Is it going to last? What is the maintenance involved? These are all quality questions which deserve quality answers.

Let's start with cost. First of all, the average cost of a tub install is anywhere between $1,400 and $2,500 and that does not factor in the tub surround. When your old tub is removed the tile at the base of the tub must be demolished. It is possible that a ';good'; installer can demo in such a way that you only have to repair the first row or two of tile. The reality is if it is older than 10 years finding a match for the tile will probably be impossible and will lead to a complete re-tile. Now, you are looking at about $4,000 to $8,000 just to replace the tub and is this cost effective for you? Be prepared from the moment you decide to dress up that tub to make this decision.

Now, a good re-glaze can last better than 10 years if done properly and there is a process which will ensure this. Preparation, product and technique are the key to a long lasting finish. If this technique is not followed your re-glaze will last anywhere from 1 day to 2 years. Two years may sound like a lot but when another company has to go in and strip the old finish off add another $500 to the re-glaze for a total of $950 to have it re-glazed again. This is not cost effective. If you're going to do it, do it right the first time and you will pat yourself on the back 5 years later when your tub still has a shine and is not peeling.

Now let's get down to process. The re-glazing process can be five to six steps:

1.) If you are refinishing from a previous re-glaze, the finish must be stripped.

2.) Removal of any caulking materials. Silicone is a contaminant and will cause the finish to fish eye. It is important to remove all traces of this.

3.) The old porcelain needs to be etched by means of an acid. This process will prepare the surface for the primer.

4.) The surface must be wiped down with a solvent de-greaser to ensure that there are no more contaminants left behind.

5.) The surface must be primed with an epoxy primer to ensure proper cross hatching of compounds (i.e.-porcelain to primer, primer to finish)

6.) The surface is then sprayed with a polyurethane resin which can be tinted to any color you desire.

When these steps are followed, you can be sure your re-glaze is going to last for years. A good refinisher will give you at least a 5 year warranty ';in writing';, now that is cost effective! You will be happy and have just saved at least 70% of the cost of replacement.

Bath tub reglazing - how good it is?
I have had it done professionally and it involved changing the colour from primrose to white. Several years done good job. It sure beats getting a new bath which would not be cast iron anyway and would probably involve smashing the old bath in situ into easily movable bits. The replacement would only be sheet steel or fibreglass which I feel are more susceptible to movement and more difficult to seal against the wall.

You should remove old sealant before the resurfacing in order to ensure that the on completion the new surface will extend to the edges of the bath and thus under new sealing or tiling giving a nice sharp finish to where sealing/tiling ends and new surface begins.

I suggest that you cover existing tiles with protective paper held on by masking tape - mine suffered from some overspray and it was a difficult

job to remove it (by definition of course it was difficult). I think I had to use a razor blade (carefully).

You will be given instuctions on when you can use the bath and probably not to spash it etc for a period - follow those instuctions.

You will also be given a guarantee against defective workmanship.

Given the need I would do it again.

    Good luck.
If I were you, I would hire a professional to do it. I used a home glazing kit that I bought from home depot. It was a lot of hard work and I had to do it twice. The first time, I didn't use the tub for almost a week (directions said 3 days I think), but when I finally used it, the glaze got messed up. Even when it seems like its dry to the touch, the pressure of standing in the tub messes up the glaze. The second time I gave the tub almost two weeks to dry. There are a couple of spots in the tub that are messed up, but overall its okay.

In contrast, when I lived in an apartment my tub was a mess when I moved in so the apartment manager hired someone to come in and do it. The professional did it quickly and easily and it came out perfectly. In addition, whatever glaze he used dried completely in 24 hours so we could use the tub the next day.

    Good luck!

The water does go down, but really slowly. I want to stay away from Drano if possible. Any home remedies that actually work? Or something natural that will not damage pipes or environment.

proper use of plunger...remove face plate from tub over flow. stuff wet cotton t-shirt partially into overflow. put 1'; of water in tub and plunge, in your case, remove screen (8 hole thing) and plunge. If that doesn't work, go to big box store and buy 1/4'; snake in drum, stick in overflow and push/spin til water goes down. works real good with 2 people but I used one in air force for 4 years. I have $275.00 one nowDrain in bath tub is semi- clogged? Ideas?
there's a part of the drain designed to keep backdraught out of the system called the u-trap, or just trap.

It's a U shaped pipe that should be fairly close to the drain ( probably directly below the drain. ) If you can get access to it, the blockage is most likely there.

Basically, you need to pull the u-shaped part of the pipe off, clear the blockage, and put it back. Be sure to have a bucket under it when you first take it off!

IF that's not the problem, then there's a blockage somewhere more deep into your system, and you will most likely need to get a plumber in.
the drain cover will probably pop out revealing an X shaped drain underneath.A plumber has a special tool to remove the drain.you can use a pair of pliers handle first with a large screwdriver slid in between the handles and turn counterclockwise.once removed you will likely find a dreadlock of old nastys attached to the drain.some plumbers putty would be nice for the reinstall.
it sounds like a hair clog. try unscrewing the drain cover and removing the hair. or you could use a wire hanger and try to hook the hair out. if that doesnt work, you might try a plunger.
Pour some baking soda down it and then add vinegar. This is a home remedy that works well.

How do you reglaze or fix an ugly bath tub?

There is a product at Home Depot in the paint department called Klenks. Its contains everything you need to refinish your porcelain or fiberglass bath tub: gloves, roller, hardener, etc.How do you reglaze or fix an ugly bath tub?
You don't say what material your tub is? Fiberglass, porcelein? Replacing is probably cheaper than reglazing. The problem you might have is fitting the new enclosure in the same spot. Is it just a tub? Or the entire wall enclosure? As a do it yourself project, DON'T DO IT!!! I don't think there is anything you can do that you would be happy with and if you do, it won't last. How do you reglaze or fix an ugly bath tub?
I've seen this company in my area. I havent heard too much about them so I reccommend doing a little research. They put a new tub/shower overtop of your old one. The idea sounds kinda cheesy to me but if it works its a really good idea. Click the link below for more info.
They have a resurfacing paint at your local Home Depot or Lowes. It will resurface a whole tub. Or you can buy one of those inserts that cover the tub and walls.

A standard bath tub is 5x2x2 or 20 cu ft

There are approximatley 7.5 gallons in a cubic foot

therefore a bath tubs gross volume is 150 gallons . If we reduce that by 10 % to allow for the actual shape , the result is 135 gallons @ 16c per gallon = 2160 cups

My bath tub drains slowly and my toilet does not always flush. Any ideas how to fix these problems?

It can be one of 2 things.

Either your main sewer line is nearly plugged (both the bathtub and the toilet will drain into the main sewer line). My question would be if the other drains in the house move slowly too ( the washing machine, kitchen sink, etc.)

If not, my other thought is that the vent pipe in your bathroom is plugged with a bird nest. The vent pipe is on the roof .My bath tub drains slowly and my toilet does not always flush. Any ideas how to fix these problems?
I think you have 2 different issues. First you may want to call a plumber but if not start with the tub. You can either buy a small drain auger at wal mart or home depot and take apart the overflow and slowly run the auger down the tube while turning it when it gets too difficult to turn pull it back out, but have a garbage bag handy (take my word for it).

if you don't want to go through that you can take a chance at plunging the drain while holding tightly over the over flow with a wet wash cloth or plastic bag.

Now for the toilet you need to see what is happening inside the tank, is it filling up all the way and is it draining completely when you flush it. If it is not filling up all the way you may have to adjust the float or the fluid master. If it is not draining the whole tank then the flapper may be falling too fast and it may need adjustment it should not drop over the drain whole until almost all of the water is gone, good luck.My bath tub drains slowly and my toilet does not always flush. Any ideas how to fix these problems?
I recently had this same problem with my bathtub. Right below the faucet is a metal disk, unscrew that and take it off. Then stuff it will a towel so that it is as airtight as you can make it. Then get a plunger and do not stop until the clog comes up. Do not use chemicals if you can help it as they will hurt your skin if it splashes on you.

If the bathtub drain still does not dislodge, then it needs to be snaked. you can go to a plumbing supply store and buy your own snake which is just a long plastic cord which travels down the drain) or you can call a plumber to do it for you.

Once a month pour a few cups of bleach down the drain at night. It the morning rinse it for a few minutes with hot water. That will help keep your drain clear.

As for the toilet, it sounds like the mechanism is getting caught of something. Take the lid off the top of the water tank and flush it. Make sure all of the moving parts are moving properly. Do not worry, they are pretty easy to identify. If you are unsure, go to another toilet and take the tank lid of that one and what how it works properly. All mechanisms inside the toilet tank work on the same philosophy so if you need to look at one that works in order to determine what is wrong with yours, that is a good place to start.
Since you have 2 or more items it is likely one problem, the main drain is partially obstructed, and if you have a septic tank, it may be full and need to be pumped. If it's a sewer system call a drain cleaning service and have the main lines augured out. Typically they will do the work and warranty it for 1 year. Watch so you know how if it happens again.
Pour a 2 liter of Coke and let it set. It will eat away what ever is stuck down there. Might have to wait a day or 2. Also my dad boils a big pot of water and pours it down the drain.

    http://tubbyusa.com

    http://www.superjetco.com

Or if you'd like to get a few quotes on having it done for you, here's a site to check out:

I hope this helps! Can I paint my bath tub?
You should look into getting a liner.

There are 3 main companies doing this type of remodel

    1) Luxury Bath

    2) Re-Bath

    3) Bath Fitter

Luxury Bath is the highest quality by a long shot. It also has a product called microban. Microban is a antimicrobial product that actually kills mold and mildew. It also comes with the best warranty. www.luxurybath.com

Re-Bath would be my second choice. The reason being is they, like Luxury Bath have a one piece ';dog leg'; (The area on the wall in front off the tub. The dog leg goes from the top of the tub rail to the floor.)

The reason I would not recommend Bath fitter is because of the dog leg. This is the area that is most prone to leaking and they piece it together here.

As far as other options there is

    1) tearing it out and starting over

    2) Ceramic tile

    3) re-glazing

With tearing it out you will be forced to use a fiberglass tub, which is very porous making it very difficult to clean. (for those that are reading this, thinking how nice your fiberglass tub is, go in there and rub your fingers over it. It may look o.k. but it will be greasy, that鈥檚 because the porous material is literally sucking the soap scum in. Fiberglass surrounds are also known for cracking and being ';spongy'; when you stand in them.

Ceramic tile is definitely attractive, but unfortunately the grout is the weak point, after all its 80% sand, and sand sucks in the water making it a perfect surface for mold and mildew. Grout also needs maintenance once a month, but before you do the maintenance, you need to clean it with a toothbrush.

re-glazing is when they paint the tub. This is more of a band-aid if your trying to sell the home, but don鈥檛 care how it will look in 6 months to 1 year. It also doesn't address the walls or fixtures.
lowes and home depot both carry tub refinish kits 40.00 per and my opinion it takes 2 to do a real good job but look in your phone book also under tub refinishing you can get it done for 300 - 350.00 guaranteed for 3 years mine looks new still after 4 years just cant use an abrasive cleaner on it.ive gotten 4 rental properties done.its the way to go any color......later
There are kits available special for refinishing bath tubs and sinks. Some of them are tint able, meaning the paint department could tint the paint to what ever color you want. Follow the directions to the letter and you should get a good result. I'd hesitate to use just plain old paint as it won't stick properly and you will end up with a mess!
I would not even try, you will not be happy with the result believe me.--- just replace it, it's not that big of a deal . there are companies that will recoat a bathtub, but it only lasts for a few years(great if you're selling right away). if not replace it
u could paint one if u knew how ...and the money u spent on the paint and spray equipment could have gone into a new tub...a basic tub is about 125.00 ( last time I bought one ) so I can't see spending a thousand.....find a handyman to install it , not a plumber....or try yourself...buy a book on plumbing....I've been a handyman for 20 yrs....it's easy....find someone to help
sure...why not?If u want to give ur old bath tub a new appearence, you should repaint it...Spray painting the bath tub is more good...Also add some new facilities to it...If u r not satisfied with it...then just buy a new one.
Why not, let your creativity begin
make sure you buy the right kind of paint!! Otherwise you'll end up with a mess....

Do animals get wrinkles when they stay in the bath tub like we do? my puppy was taking a bath and i was just?

wondering if they or any animal for that matter wrinkle when they stay in water too long. ;o)Do animals get wrinkles when they stay in the bath tub like we do? my puppy was taking a bath and i was just?
Yes they can! but they dry out just like we do! Cute question.Do animals get wrinkles when they stay in the bath tub like we do? my puppy was taking a bath and i was just?
yes! they can. but as time goes on and they are in a tub, the wrinkles will not get worse. they will stay att the same severaty

until you take your pet out of the tub. eventually they will dry off just as ours do.

How do you clean around the bath tub caulk??

LOL, I just finished recaulking my whole tub because I could not get it clean. I tried scrubbing, I tried Tilex, I tried Mr. Clean Magic eraser and nothing worked. I ended up pulling all the old caulk off and redoing it. If you do this make sure to fill the tub before you caulk. Otherwise, when you add water it can pull on the caulk and break it loose. How do you clean around the bath tub caulk??
old toothbrushHow do you clean around the bath tub caulk??
    hydrogen peroxide will ';bleach'; it
    bleach and a soft brush
I have never had success with cleaning it. It's really easy to remove the old caulking, scrub it out and re-caulk. I bought a kit with the remover tool and a tube of silicone and the tools and instructions from an informercial on tv. Then, when the plumber came to fix a tap, he thought I was ';cheating'; on him with another plumber because the job looked so professional. It was funny and I was really proud. If you do it right, you can just clean it with the rest of your tub. Good luck and have fun!
tile guard comes in a bottle like shoe polish, will make it white again. If you mean around the caulk use a pumice stone

For dog lovers do you bath your dog in your bath tub?

I'm asking this question because I have a friend that does this. I mean to each his own, but its not personally something I would do. I'm not an animal lover anyway. However, my step brother takes his dog to a ';dog spa'; every week to get bathed. Hell they even used flavored bath gels on the dogs, which is cute. But it cost $200.00!!! So I'm just curious that's all.For dog lovers do you bath your dog in your bath tub?
Yes, we bathe our dogs in the bath tub. Clean the dog, clean the tub. You would probably be horrified to learn that we give our baby puppies baths in the kitchen sink, eh?

Tell your brother I'd be more than happy to bathe his dog for half the price he's paying now. Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work (grin). For dog lovers do you bath your dog in your bath tub?
I only have one bathtub, and that's the people one, so I have no choice.

However I'd love to have a big industrial tub in the basement for dog-washing purposese. A dog's less picky if there's sand on the bottom of his tub, than I am about it.

However, until I obtain my dream house, people-tub it is.

I'm not a huge fan of the groomers, too many dogs come back spooked by the experience... it's pricey, I dont' like the chemically smelly products, etc. Each to their own though.
Yes, I bath my Hound and my Boston in the bathtub. Then I clean the tub and bathroom. No harm, no foul. They sleep with us in our beds, lay with us on chairs, or couches.....they are clean and very well taken care of. They go everywhere with us and are members of the family. I can understand if you are not an animal lover. To each his own. As far as the $200. I would say that is his bidness......I know people who spend that much on a pair of shoes, a haircut, or anything else. I could care less unless they ask me for my money to pay for it. Cheers.
Ummm 200$$ for a bath? That can't be right. You could buy a small bathing tub for 200 bucks honey.

I have a 65lbs lab chow mix with lots of thick fur so i don't wash her at home since i don't have access to a force dryer. I take her to a place called Buds and Bubbles. I can use there tubs there shampoo's towels brushes and dryers for 15$. I get all the time I want and don't have to pay extra for conditioners or special shampoos. And to top it all off they clean up after me!! What more could ya ask for?

I'm in Metro Atlanta and i'm sure we aren't the only city that has dog wash stores. Do a search on yahoo I'm sure you'll find something.
yes not only do I bath my dogs in the bathtub but do it for ohters.

I don't have any idea why it should cost someone that much to take a dog to get bathed. I only charge $25 and yes I'm a professional ( went to school) and use teh nice smelling conditioner.
yes I bathe my dog in the tub.. where else am I suppossed to do it? Tub seems like a better option than my kitchen sink where I wash my dishes. He doesnt fit in my bathroom sinks.

I wouldnt pay $200 to get my dog a bath.. that's just insane.
your step-brother is wasting a heck of a lot of money, especially with the economy these days. If he is too lazy to go out and buy a simple bottle of dog shampoo, and give him a bath, then let him waste $200 a week.
Yeah i use the tub for my dog too... she now will just open the bathroom door and go hop in the tub and check it out... i just make sure to clean it well before and after her bath... i would never spend 200 dollars to wash my dog lol
In the winter, yes I do bath my dog in the bathtub and wash really well afterwords with comet that contains bleach.

In the summer, he gets a bath outside.
if i bathe my dog at home i use the guest bathroom. Sometimes i use the sink in my laundry room. i have a friend that puts her dog in the shower with her (which is a little much for me).
i love love love my dog but i bathe her outside. i love doing it, i get to spend time with her. Its a bonding experience, hehe. and its nice to do it out back in the warm sun
    I own 3 dogs and 2 cats---I am a big animal lover!

Yes, I wash my dogs in my bath. Of course, I always clean up afterwords!
Yes I bathe both of my dogs in the tub then I clean the tub. Would you rather me having smelly gross dogs?
Yes, I bathe them in my bathtub.

Then I scrub down the bathtub.
Yes sometimes. most of the time I use the shower so the dirt washes down.

    And stop drinking that Hateraid
I do. And its perfectly normal.
Outside if the weather is nice. Bathtub on occasion. Tubs can be cleaned.
yeah i would do it and of course i take a bath for my dog in bath tub
Yeah unless they're little bitty then I do it in the kitchen sink...

How to remove steel wool marks from bath tub!?

My fiance didn't seem to know that steel wool leaves marks on porcelain, so as he was putting up a new tub surround he was scraping off pieces of caulking from the tub with steel wool, so now there are grey steel wool marks all over our tub!! it looks horrible, what can i use to get the marks off?? I tried bleach and that didn't work at all... any ideas?!How to remove steel wool marks from bath tub!?
Magic Eraser will do the trick. How to remove steel wool marks from bath tub!?
Oh well, live and learn. You need an abrasive. I haven't needed to try it since I learned a long time ago that metal and porcelain aren't a good combo, but I'd try the Magic Eraser too. You could also try something like Ajax cleanser, dampened but not wet, on a sponge or a cloth. If neither of those work, there's a product called Zud that's pretty good at taking stains off porcelain but it can be hard to find. And remember to keep your toilet brush in good shape so any metal that holds the bristles doesn't scrape the bowl. If you think it's hard getting metal marks off a bathtub, wait till you try getting them out of a toilet. Next time fiance needs to do something similar, hand him one of those green scrub pads or a plastic scraper.
The first thing I would try is baking soda, make a paste by adding a small amount of water to some baking soda in a bowl. Then take a damp rag and use the baking soda paste and try to polish off the marks. It is a very mild abrasive and it might remove the marks. I never tried magic eraser so I can't comment on that.
if magic eraser or comet don't work get some of the denture cleaning tablets that you soak dentures in...crush them...wet the area that's damaged and sprinkle on the crushed tablet...wet and leave sit. if that doesn't work you will have to go to a hardware store and order a repair kit for porcelain.
Use comet or ajax and a microfiber cloth!

I grew up with porcelain tubs and that's why I have a stainless steel kitchen sink.
In construction I`ve always used Magic Cleaner bought at most hardware stores. I`ve seen answers here that say Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works?
What works for me is stuff that contains oxalic acid. Zud or Bar Keeper's Friend cleansers are the only two I'm aware of.
    whatever happened to soft scrub?

Do my cat wanna come in the bath tub?

When im taking a bath my cat will lean over and dip his paws in it. And sometimes he'll go in my moms bath (with no water in it) and just sit there..lol

Does he wanna go in the water or what?Do my cat wanna come in the bath tub?
Just cute and nosy!Do my cat wanna come in the bath tub?
rather than call this place Yahoo Answers, sometimes it should be called Yahoo Opinions.

    anyhow here is mine....

My sister tells me about her cats often and one of her cats loves fresh water.

As sister tells it, this spoiled kitty will run up to the sink or tub when water is being run in it, she wants her water very fresh. Sister says she sometimes leave the water dribbling for a few mins.

Maybe this explains your situation too.

    or

There are breeds of cats that actually love water, my sister tells me. Is it possible your kitty is one of these breeds?

Have a great day w/ kitty!
i came in one day to find my cat in the tub....I think she loved the coolness of the tub...or rather the feel of the tub. Now both cats go inside and sit. Let them what are they hurting?
no, cats just lik to explore
Try putting a little water in the tub and leaving it alone. If he goes in, he obviouslly likes the water.
Some cats like water. We have a main coon and they are especially known for liking water. They sometimes dip their toys in their water bowls before playing with them. However, he does not want to be submerged in it. He likes to play with it, hover around the tub, and even sit in the tub while the water is running [until it reaches him], but doesn't want to be in it.

he also plays in the tub when it's empty. sometime they [both of them] sleep in there, and when i'm taking my bath he comes to sit on the edge. Occasionally he gets brave and tries to walk across me to the other side fo the tub.

He plays with it so much that the other cat plays with it too.

One day he didn't realize I was filling the tub when he came running into the bathroom in one of his wild running fits and jumped straight into the water. Needless to say he ran right back out.

He also has an affinity for sinks. The bathroom sink is on of his favorite sleeping spots. We're pretty sure he's going to learn how to turn on the tap. Seeing as he figured out the cabinets [ we had to get safety locks for them].

There's a breed of cat that likes to swim called the turkish van.
pull it in and find out
He is just trying to figure out what is wrong with you. Why are you in that water and he has to feel it to make sure it is water. He goes in your empty bath for the same reasons. He wonders what the whole idea is about. It must appear to be magic . First there is water then there is none.
that would be cute if he did
My cats do the same thing. My one female jumped up on the bathtub the other morning and she was walking along the back of it when she fell in (and yes I had it about half full). She didn't like that to much. I was really lucky that I wasn't in the bathtub yet. She got out of there in a hurry, so probably not. Some cats don't have a problem with water though. Just fill it a little and try putting your cat in there, but just make sure your out of the way if it don't like it.
He sees his reflection and wants to play in it. I seriously doubt the cat wants to be in the water. Though stranger things have happened.
Mine does too. No not in the bath but drink dripping water yes
my daughter's cat started sitting on the sink when my other daughter would be getting ready for work. at first if angel the cat would just go for the water dripping, then she stopped drinking form her water dish. so back to the dripping water. then she stopped drinking that too. so they put water in the sink. well the cat was happy to drink out of the sink. if they were in a hurry, thirsty cat. in a magazine printed especially for cats and their quirks, they found a closed in fountain that poured fresh water into a sink shaped, but much smaller of course. problem solved. there is clean fresh water that circulates through the system constantly, every one is happy. well after all of this i think that is the tap water that cats love to drink. PS i read in a book that cats have nodules on their tongue, they make water delicious for the cat. ergo the fresher the water the better the taste.
let it take a bath with you and then you will know the answer
My cat Sheba does that with the toilet. If I flush it, she jumps on it and stares at it. lol.

When I'm in the restroom brushing my teeth or something, she'll jump in the bathtub and just stay there. She hates baths though

How many grains of sand can you fit into a bath tub?

Well google says the avg bathtub is 40-60 gallons, so say 50. And say average, medium-grained sized sand, 0.375 mm in diameter. Allowing a bit for spaces between the grains.... about 9 billion grains! How many grains of sand can you fit into a bath tub?
depends on the size of the bathtub and what type of sand you use =)How many grains of sand can you fit into a bath tub?
A lot. The actual number depends on the size of the bath tub and the kind of sand you use (i.e., you will be able to fit less coarse sand than you would fine sand).
  • wrinkles
  • What is best way to clean a very dirty bath tub?

Well,...this is the REAL answer. Dowel Foam Bathroom Cleaner. You just spray on, wait a few minutes, them wipe off. Repeat. NO scrubbing at all. I've owned a cleaning service for 20 yrs, and have never found anything that is as good.:) ArumWhat is best way to clean a very dirty bath tub?
Mr cleans magic erasers!!!!What is best way to clean a very dirty bath tub?
First, you would have to put hot water in the tub. then, use a sponge or rag(or chissel)to clean the dirt from the tub. Finaly, run more water in the tub to get any that you missed andlet the water drain.
clean it with Tide and soft scrub, rinse and refill and let set w/bleach in it with the water for a day, may clean it nice and smell good too
use a non-abrasive cleanser and sponge or soft rag. No sos pads or comet or stuff that will scratch the enamel or u will never be able to keep it clean. I got this stuff called Krud Kutter and recommend it - its a cleaner / degreaser and will even soften dry latex paint. In Canada you can it at Home Hardware in US not sure - but any strong degreaser will probably work just as well.
I think I would get mad enough to use Comet cleanser and a green scrubbier and the heck with it.
I fill the tub with water and pour some bleach in it, let it soak. It might need some extra scrubbing, but the bleach sure gives you a head start.
If you have a respirator you can acd wash it with two parts water one part muriatic acid, that will take almost anything off then ventilate area.
it all depends on whether the dirt is caked on or not. i'd start with purely HOT water, and let it soak for a while. half an hour, give or take 10 mins or so. hopefully you've got a good scrub brush to get the dirt off. DON'T DRAIN THE WATER until after you've started getting the dirt off! if you do this, you really won't need any product, unless you want it to smell good too. =D good luck!
If it is porcelin, start with a rough grit scotch-brite pad and cleanser to remove soap and scum residue.

Then use muratic acid, carefully, (emphasis on ';carefully';)

Be certain that the room is ventalated, pour the acid down the sides of the tub, set the bottle down and leave the room, all the while holding your breath.

Muratic acid is not so bad, but when it reacts with minerals, such as rust and lime, the fumes are noxiuos.

End result? The porcelin looks like new.

If it's a fiberglass tub, clean as best you can as stated above and then use a very fine grit, wet sand paper and try to rub out the stains.

Dont use the acid on fiberglass or PVC, (plastic) tubs.

Tips for fixing bath tub knob?

When I turn on the Cold knob water run from it also tips on fixing this problem, thanks in advanceTips for fixing bath tub knob?
shut the water off at your tub it may be in the wall or in the basement .pop off the little C cap on the knob with knife and then get a star screwdriver and remove the screw hidden under it...then pull off the knob ,then u will need a adjustable wrench or some plyers to take the valve out...there is a little black rubber O ring inside that needs to be replaced.go to hardware store and get the same O ring ,just ask for help if the old O ring is too messed up to compare with a new one for size they know which one is right for tubs...then just go put it back together ,turn on the water %26amp; presto problem solved

good luckTips for fixing bath tub knob?
Sounds like you need to rebuild the valve, or replace it, which is easier and consider doing the hot water while you are at it. First turn off the water to the faucet, use in-line shutoffs if you have them at the water entry if you don't. Next remove the handle. It is usually held on with a screw which is covered with a trim piece at the center of the knob. Next remove the trim which fits around the stem and presses against the wall and either unscrews or is held in place with a nut. Put the handle back on (without the screw) and back out the valve. Take it to a hardware store or home center and they should be able to help find the parts you need or a replacement valve and valve grease. Use the grease to coat any rubber/plastic sealing parts and reassemble the valve in the reverse order of disassembly, turn the water back on and you are done.
Pop the cover cap off of the end of the handle. Remove the screw that holds the handle on. Pull the handle straight off. If it will not come off, you may need to use WD-40 or wrap a rag soaked with vinegar around it and let it sit a while. Once the handle is removed, turn the exposed stem with a pair of pliers. See if the water is coming out from the nut that is holding the stem in. If so, just open the faucet again and tighten the nut. It is called a packing nut and it's purpose is to keep water from flowing out when the faucet is opened. If the water isn't coming from the nut, now you need to shut the water supply off. Most tubs do not have supply valves so you will probably have to shut off the main water valve. Remove the nut, unscrew the stem and replace the rubber washer that is on the end of it. Take the stem with you to get the proper washer. Reverse this procedure to reinstall the faucet. As long as the water is off, you might as well replace the hot washer also.

How to get my bath tub clean?!?

So my husband and I live in military housing, and the bathtub is made out of a weird material. We have tried cleaning it with all sorts of different cleaners, and I even put bleach in there last night and let it sit over night, but that didn't help either. It seems to be maybe hard water stains, so i am wondering what other things I can try to get the tub clean?!How to get my bath tub clean?!?
Have you tried the product CLR..Calcium, Lime, Rust....it is sold in places such as the grocery store and drug stores. It works miracles. Outside of that if you have some baking soda and half cup of vinegar make a paste and take a bit to test a spot. Use a sponge that is soft. Mix one cup of baking soda to half cup of vinegar. How to get my bath tub clean?!?
Wet the tub and sprinkle the whole bottom of your tub with baking soda, let it sit for 5 to 10 min. then grab a scrubber and this should move any build you have and stains.
I once cleaned a toilet that we thought was beyond saving by pouring a gallon of vinegar in it and letting it sit overnight. Vinegar is cheap and amazing, it dissolves hard water and is non-offensive to the environment.
Clr work but I think it is too runny.

The Works Shower and Tub Cleaner does wonders!

Anything that is industrial strength... but you will need a gas mask and a well ventalated room

Let any of these sit about 20 minutes and scrub with a grren dish scrubber.

  • How much does it cost to tile a standard bath tub?

I just paid $475 to have my bath tub tiled (LABOR only) and got two quotes -- the highest one was $700 for labor and lowest was $475 for labor. I'm in Houston.

Is refacing a bath tub as good as new?

No. It's not as good as new.

That said, I had my reglazed and I LOVE it. The tub in our house is a beautiful, old, huge cast iron tub that would probably cost us $2000 new - not including the cost of cutting up the old one and moving it through the bedroom, through the hallway, down the stairs, etc and then having a new one put in.

Our reglaze cost us $250 (which seems to be on the cheap side - I've heard between $300 and $600 from other people) and the guy that did ours did a beautiful job.

Now, it's not a durable as it used to be. You can't use scouring powder, or anything abrasive at all on it. When I take a bath, I'm careful to take off some of my rings so I don't scratch up the tub. But I think it was a great choice for us.Is refacing a bath tub as good as new?
No and you need to be very careful.....I didn't like mine and replaced it with a new one as soon as I could afford it.Is refacing a bath tub as good as new?
it all depends. if you buy the stuff from home depot or any store like that then no. However I have seen some rebath companies do a very nice job. but if they are not a good company it can come out bad
It depends. If you have a unique piece not easily replaced, then it may be a good investment. This assumes you are using an experienced contractor - a specialist that does this work regularly.

If you are thinking of re-coloring a standard tub I wouldn't do it. The ones I've seen have all ';lifted'; at some point.

The finish just cannot be adhered the same as a factory baked finish, unfortunately.
I have resurfaced a couple of tubs for clients and also my mother just had hers resurfaced. If your talking about having a professional come and resurface an older claw foot porcelain tub or built it porcelain tub, than I say yes it is worth it and it is long lasting and looks like a new porcelain tub. But if you are referring to something like the Re-Bath company I don't have any experience with that.
No!!!, my grandmother did that and it peeled off! I have heard good things of re-bath. It is a complete liner that they fit over your existing bath and they can do the surround also. Go to Rebath.com.

I hope it turns out GREAT!!!
no. if you dont mind the inconvenience of a bath makeover, you would be better off replacing rather than refacing. a bathtub liner is the cheap way to go because you dont have to redo the rest of the bath, but you still have your old bathroom and you've spent $1000. the liners are long lasting though, and if installed properly, work real well. bathfitters is one of the companies that installs.

P.S. this is not a diy job

Need help finding a toddler bath tub?

I have a 14 month old baby boy who is 32 inches tall and weighs 28 pounds. We don't have a bathtub, only a shower stall and he is wayyy to big for his baby-to-toddler bath tub. He always shivers in it because the water doesn't even cover his legs anymore. Are there any bathtubs out there for older babies? Thank you.Need help finding a toddler bath tub?

Have you tried just showering him? Some toddlers like it, others don't like the water in their faces.Need help finding a toddler bath tub?
    Awwwwww :(

    Poor baby!!

Well- the only thing I can think of is getting one of those big metal tins/buckets. Do you know what I am talking about? And then filling it up with warm water and bathing him in there.

I haven't seen any bigger bath tubs for babies over a year.

Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for and your baby doesnt get cold anymore :)

ETA: Now that people are mentioning it- I did buy that ducky bath tub for a friend at Target. And it is $12. Try that!

have u tried babies r us. there are this great booster bath chairs. they are for bath tubs. but you may want to try in the sink. thats what we did with my 14month old when we are at his nana's house. she does not have a tub either. hope that helps you
I had the same issue, so i went to walmart and they have a ducky bath that my 11 month old fits in, she does sit up in it but the water goes up high enough for her so it works. They are $12.00 so it is good.
This may work Wal-Mart has these tiny little blow up pools. They are small enough for a little one to sit in and splash around but it still isn't to big. I haven't seen them online but I saw them in the store.
He can learn to take a shower if you just take him in there with you! They don't make toddler tubs anyway, that's just silly!
We have the big ducky one from walmart. it was like 12 bucks.... it is inflatable.
you should go on Crage list

Does anyone know how to clean theses spots on the bottom of my bath tub?

I've tried to clean the bottom of my tub with all sorts of cleaners an the spots won't go away. I clean my tub regularly. I';ve used :comet, ajax, all sorts of disinfectants, baking soda but the spots are still there. Help pleaseDoes anyone know how to clean theses spots on the bottom of my bath tub?
I would take bleach and pour it on the spot and let it stay overnight, and see if that does anything.

or try Mr Clean magic sponge. and see if that does it.Does anyone know how to clean theses spots on the bottom of my bath tub?
WHEN I MOVE TO MY VEGAS APT. THE TUB WAS SO FULL OF BLACK SPOTS, SO I TRIED EASY OFF THE OVEN CLEANER, AND GUESS WHAT? IT WORKS!!
Mr. clean Magic Eraser is awesome, especially for bathtubs that have the rough surface so you won't slip yet easy to pickup dirt You just scrub it off with the blue area and it will come up in bits and pieces and you just need to rinse it off. You can pretty much use it for anything.
try using soft scrub with bleach and a magic eraser. i have used several different methods in the past and this is the best i have found. good luck!
Use the Magic Eraser that the other two talked about! THEY ARE WONDERFUL!!!!
Vanessa, you should try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! I had some discoloration on the bottom of our tub and bleach wouldn't even lighten it up. I used a Magic Eraser and it was gone! I had tried everything too; bleach, comet, baking soda, every kind of scrubber you can imagine! Nothing worked.... you should really try it!

    Good Luck!
Have you tried bleach? I love those bleach gel pens. Rub a little of that on there and let it sit for awhile before washing it away.

What are those things called that you put your baby in inside the bath tub to hold them up?

and where can i find one? What are those things called that you put your baby in inside the bath tub to hold them up?
a baby bath chair? My son is 9 monts old and has one we love it just need to be right there incase he leans to far it wil tip over. I found mine on a local freecycle groupWhat are those things called that you put your baby in inside the bath tub to hold them up?
They are called a major choking hazard. And they are not recommended. They have bath accessories that look almost like a soft float that baby can lay on that absorbs water, keeps baby warm and safe in the tub. They sell them thru babiesrus. You can also use a very small amount of water and a towel and lay baby on the towel. Once baby can sit up you can use a non-slip mat or a towel in the bottom of the tub to keep them in place better.
do you mean a bath eaz for infants or a bath ring for the baby to sit up? either or you can get them at any box store.
They are a hazard to your baby and i agree with the first comment! Don't use them and go to babiesrus to find a special mat for ur baby!
idk what you mean, but look up the 'primo euro tub'; it has support for a nb and a older baby built in....hth

  • Need to replace sealant around bath tub?

I replaced my bathroom suite this summer. Already the sealant is cracking and showing gaps. Can I put more sealant over it or do I need to remove the old and replace with new? If I need to remove the old, what is the best way to do it without taking chunks out of the (plastic) bath?

Thanks...Need to replace sealant around bath tub?
As a former tiler, who used to seal baths 2 or 3 times a week .....

    - remove old sealant all the way round - with a stanley blade, as described. Mare sure you get as much off as possible, off the wall and the bath.

    - clean it up, make sure there are no bits in the way of where the new sealant is going - you can pick off little bits, or scratch them off with a finger nail

    - cut the nozzle of the tube to a suitable diameter, at an angle of 45 degrees.

    - hold the tube (preferably a mastic gun) at a angle of 45 degrees to the direction of travel, and squeeze the sealant out at a constant rate, whilst dragging (not pushing) the nozzle along the gap.

    - don't stop - complete the whole length of the gap.

    - repeat around all gaps to be filled.

    - wet your index finger (lots and lots of spit, so the mastic doesn't stick to it), and run your finger along each gap, to give a smooth finish, and also to complete the seal against the bath and the wall/tiles

any gaps can be filled with an additional squeeze of mastic (not too much), and smoothed over as before, for a perfect finish.

    - ps - have a tissue handy, to wipe excess off your finger, after each length has been smoothed with your finger.

    - easy !Need to replace sealant around bath tub?
whatever did you use if you used the right stuff you should be able to peel it off pretty easily
Are you a bloke or what? Even I can do this and I'm a bloody bird.... rip off as much as the old sealant as you can and replace... and this time do it properly, it shouldn't be coming away already....

or better still as you sound like a complete liability around the house, get a professional in.
I find it easiest with a stanley knife blade, if it is a fibre glass bath you have to be careful of cutting into the bath itself, so make sure it si flat to the bath surface

It is better to take the blade out of the knife handle, push it into the sealant and holding it flat to the bath edge run it along.

Then do the same as you run it along the wall edge but twist the blade slightly into the wall as you run it along.

You must keep your fingers to the back edge of the blade and it can be held in paper if it is more comfortable.
If it's deteriorating, simply peel it off - you may need to scrape at it with a curved paint scraper (I've found these useful in the past). You can also get a solvent to remove the last of the bits.

A tip from a professional plumber which was passed on to me. When you're resealing your bath, fill it with cold water so that when it's dry and you fill the bath again, you don't cause a gap to appear.
You need to strip all the old stuff off first.

I bought some stuff from B%26amp;Q (name has gone though) and it helped take all the old sealant off. As it is cracking already, it shold be easy to get a wallpaper scrape blade beind it and yank it off??

When you are putting the new sealant on, make sure you don't leave the sealant to be on a slope or when it dries (which takes over 24 hours), water will gather in the gaps and it will go mouldy even if the sealant states that it never goes mouldy.

I will be re-doing mine in the next two weeks.

    Good luck :-)
If the old sealant is coming away, I would gently try and prize it off first. You cant really put a fresh application over the top..
Try white spirits to help remove the old sealant and a grout remover tool. Next sealant you try get a silicone based sealant instead, it is elastic and wont crack and is waterproof.
remove old sealant with sealant remover from b%26amp;q etc, when putting new sealant on fill the bath first as plastic baths move slightly !!!
did you fill the bath with water the first time this helps when sealing as the bath will move with water being added if you hadn't try doing it again.

just use a stanley knive or other sharp knife and get into a corner try prising some out and pull it along.
